Mi Casa Su Casa
If you are without a home in London (homeless) – here are some tips for you!
Be homeless in your desired local government area (council) to live in and then give Streetlink a call – or get someone to do it for you. Why not Westminster LGA? And ‘go’ from there.
Ground floor balconies to temporarily live are a really good option if there is a disused property available. Think Manor House for instance.
One regular spot is going to be ideal – you will feel more comfortable and have better chances of Streetlink or council services finding you in your ideal borough.
Hackney LGA is a great option. You can utilise the council’s Greenhouse Walk-In centre. Access homelessness services, have your mail delivered and see a GP all in the one edifice.
Now, this is up to you… You can get a roof over your head – and then some by going down the Mental Health Route.
If you are homeless you might have a mental health problem (even if you don’t) you can use this to your favour.
Just rock up to any mental health hospital, why not try Homerton or Goodmayes? Or call an ambulance – saying you can’t cope mentally and need to be hospitalised. Or something along those ‘lines’.
It is desirable you be a voluntary patient. However, either way to be discharged you must legally have a council place to stay – and with a diagnosed mental health problem – you will never be made homeless again. Enshrined in legislation.
The discharge-to-housing aspect is technically applicable if you are under arrest or require A&E hospitalisation. However, there may not be the same longevity if you were to be made homeless again in the future. For whatever reason.
By the way, if you end up at Goodmayes you should be able to choose your LGA to be housed out of the boroughs it serves. I suggest Waltham Forest. There’s a Gail’s!
Now you are en route to council housing – and the rest is history!
